Ellen McGough studies functional markers of mobility-related disability in older adults. She’s currently using portable motion analysis technology to study in-home mobility in older adults with varying levels of cognitive impairment. She’s also using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study brain correlates of function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer's disease.

In collaboration with the UW Health Promotion Research Center, Kim Bennett is involved in research on using physical therapy clinics to promote exercise; the possible role of physical therapists in patient education about the health benefits of exercise in lieu of primary care physicians; and techniques to increase awareness among physical therapists of the availability of this program.
